Spell of the Week

Before You Begin

Life moves quickly, and our homes quietly hold everything we carry through the door. This week's working is a small act of care, a way to clear the air, settle the energy, and draw a calm, protective line around the space you live in.

It draws on old folk traditions, salt at the threshold, smoke in the corners, a candle lit with intention. Nothing here is complicated. Gather what you have, take your time, and let the ritual below do the rest.

Spell of the Week

Home Protection Ritual

❖ ❖ ❖
Advanced Ritual

The deeper version of the same ritual. You will cast a circle, craft and charge a protection sigil, and lay layered wards at every threshold for a stronger, longer hold.

What You Will Need

  • One black candle (banishing) and one white candle (protection)
  • Black salt or blessed salt, plus sea salt for the circle
  • Moon water, charged under a full moon
  • A herb bundle: rosemary, mugwort and bay
  • Black tourmaline and a piece of selenite or clear quartz
  • One dried bay leaf and a pen, for your sigil
  • A fire-safe dish or cauldron
  • Optional: protective oil (olive oil with crushed rosemary)
The Ritual

  1. Cast the circleSprinkle sea salt in a clockwise circle around your working space. Step inside and state that this is sacred, sealed ground.
  2. Mix black saltOptional. Blend sea salt with a scraping of fine fireplace ash. Black salt absorbs and banishes the heavier energy.
  3. Cleanse with smokeLight the herb bundle and cleanse yourself first, then the room, moving clockwise. Mind the windows, mirrors and drains, where energy slips through.
  4. Draw your sigilOn the bay leaf, write your intention as one sentence, then condense the letters into a single symbol. Charge it in the warmth of the candle flame.
  5. Dress and light the candlesAnoint the black candle base to wick to draw negativity out, the white wick to base to draw protection in. Light the black first, then the white.
  6. Lay the wardsPlace a few grains of black salt and a small crystal at every threshold and window. Speak the boundary aloud at each one.
  7. Burn the sigilLight the bay leaf from the white candle and let it burn safely in your cauldron. As it burns, the ward sets into the home.
  8. Seal and groundSprinkle a little moon water at the front door. Press your palms to the floor and feel the protection settle. Thank the elements.
  9. Close the circleWalk it anticlockwise to open the space, then gather the floor salt. Carry the old salt and ash outside and scatter it away from your door.
The Binding Chant

“By salt and smoke, by flame and stone, this threshold holds, this house my own. What means me harm may not draw near, only love and light are welcome here.”

A note on timing: Saturn rules boundaries and banishing, so a Saturday strengthens the work, and a waning moon carries unwanted energy away as it shrinks.

Never leave candles or burning herbs unattended. Keep a lid or a little water beside your cauldron.
